Normal saline can be used safely for root canal irrigation as there will be no pain if absorbed accidentally in periapical area when compared with sodium hypochlorite without compromising the post operative outcome of root-canal treatment. Normal saline is also used as a sterile irrigation solution during surgical guttering of the bone when surgically removing the third molar or performing any bony surgery with rotary instruments.
